After having Apple for a day I’m liking the ease of it more and more. The only anoying thing is hardware related. Under my left hand palm rest it gets hot when I’m sitting somewhere warm, I don’t feel any air coming out of the fan either. I’ve been able to get internet and use my logitech mouse without any extra installation or configurations. I need to get used to the 12 inch display, especially the fonts are really tiny.
I’m running Firefox as default browser and I discovered a mayor bug. Websites with hover dropdown menu’s don’t work. In Safari 1.1 they work fine. Still have to install Safari 1.2. I installed NetNewsWire Lite as RSS reader, it’s not Feeddemon but it does its job nicely. I am using Apple’s default mail client when Thunderbird comes out with the pinestripe GUI I’ll switch to it. I don’t like the default mail client because all accounts receive their mails in one inbox. I like my mails account seperated.
Right now I’m trying to find out where the Service folder with Apache is located. I read that PHP is installed by default and I only have to activate it in the Apache conf. A FTP client is also a must, my website doesn’t has any Apple friendly font. I’m going to add “Gill Sans” as default font and Verdana secondary for Windows computers.
Overall no complaints yet, the system runs smoothly, only one application freeze till now. I don’t have to wait for anything to load or close. I have the following hardware:
- 12 inch iBook G4 800Mhz
- 384 MB RAM
- Airport Extreme Card
- Maybe bluetooth, although I did not order it, all bluetooth applications are installed.
