Watapana Publicize coming soonMarch 28th, 2004

After working some long nights I’m almost done with my own CMS which I have named ëWatapana Publicizeí. I wanted a different name for my CMS so after much thinking and checking all synonyms for publish I decided for ëWatapana Publicizeí. Watapana is a typical tree from Aruba which grows pointing where the wind goes. It is one of my favorite tree from Aruba so I used it for the CMS name. I worked on colors and even on a logo for it with a website.

Watapana Publicize will be a simple CMS with users in mind who:

  • don’t want to setup a whole system
  • wants lots of control
  • wants to change the design by only editing max 5 files including the stylesheet
  • have all content in the database; weblog and pages
  • there might be more reasons but those are the one on top of my head

Watapana Publicize will use PHP, mySQL and will need Perl for using Markdown and SmartyPants. It will be released under the GPL and naturally will be free for personal use. For commercial use it’s another story which will include paying the author of Markdown, etc.

Note that Watapana Publicize is simple and I mean very simple, not to be compared with Movable Type or Textpattern in any way. But to me it has served well since I started my weblog and thus it is written according to my PHP level. Due that I’m going to release it I have extended it and cleaned it up completely. I’m not using the ‘clean and extended’ version but

I’m currently trying to write some understandable documentation and still have to add the extra features. I may release part of the website but due that there ain’t any visually stunning graphic I will just launch the whole thing on an unscheduled date meaning there is no release date yet. I don’t like deadlines it will come when it’s ready. I will release it in alpha state not beta because I’m the only one who has used Watapana Publicize. If there are some nice people out there who want to try it out before release to check for bugs and look for things that can be done better drop me a line.
