Jamie Foxx's touching speech

This morning before leaving the house for school I did my usual online news reading. Last night where the Oscars which of course weren’t broadcasted live here. As I read through [CNN](http://www.cnn.com/2005/SHOWBIZ/ Movies/02/27/oscar.night/index.html) full Oscar story, hoping that Chris Rock would have done a good presentation, I read that Jamie Foxx has won best actor for ‘Ray’. Now I was favoring him to win so I was pleased. Then when I read about his speech it brought tears to my eyes.

When reading something pure showbiz you don’t expect to read anything that will trow you off.

..to my grandmother who taught me how to act. She still talks to me, but now she talks to me in my dreams. And I can’t wait to go to sleep tonight because we’ve got a lot to talk about. -Jamie Foxx

I don’t know if it’s because I’m getting older or what. But now when I read, see (meaningful)movies or hear a song I treasure them more. I guess it’s by becoming older you experience more ‘life’, thus you can relate more to a story or lyric. It sure is a journey growing up…

Flickr to be acquired by Yahoo?

Today I found out through [Minid.net](http://www.minid.net/archivos/categorias/negocios/el_ cruel_destino_de_flickr.php#comments) that Yahoo might be buying Flickr. I did a quick Google search on it, and a couple of weblog mentions this rumor. According to [business2blog](http://business2.blogs.com/business2blog/ 2005/02/flickr_yahoo_de.html) the rumor has it that Ludicorp signed the papers already and that Yahoo will announce the transaction on March 1(tomorrow).

I hope all these rumors are just that, rumors. Flickr is one of the best running web application of the moment. I believe a lot of people use it because they are an individual company with one clear product focused on the user experience. It’s not like using a Yahoo or MSN product that come with ‘thousand’ other product to which they want you to sign up for. Where the user experience is not their priority.

I’m not one to sign up fast for a web service. Heck the only web service I pay for is my web hosting and domain. But Flickr had me the moment I tried their free account. A few days later I bought a one year subscription. I really enjoy using Flickr for managing photos, looking through other people photo’s and just the whole photography thing.

The internet is a whole big money game. The ones that have to endure it are the users. Remember MovableType?, a year back it was the most popular weblog application. As soon as it commercialized, introducing different license, most people stopped using it. Now a big percentage of webloggers are like, movable what? The key weblog applications of the moment are now WordPress and Textpattern. They profited big time of MT going 100% commercial.

Now lets see who is the first to offer to buy Jason Kottke, that would make the commercializing circle complete. Luckily Jason is more user then market oriented. You can become a micropatron of Kottke to keep him weblogging fulltime without big banner ads.

Some thoughts on being single and him

Almost a year ago Dunstan wrote a drunk entry about [being single](http://1976design.com/blog/archive/ 2004/05/02/being-single/). These past day I was reminded of that post.

General assumption is that woman are complicated. Well the men is as unsolvable as the bermuda triangle sometimes. It’s hard work being single you know, each time you meet a guy you have to be sharp and prepared for everything. When he starts sending all those mixed signals you’re like wishing he came with a dictionary.

Then you’ll realize that not even ‘Cosmo’ can help you out, really. All those ‘Sex and the City’ moments start coming back in my mind. Like when Berger acted like a jerk with Carrie by breaking up through a Post-It.

Then I saw Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason this week end. And I remembered how Mark Darcy told Bridget: ‘I like you just the way you are’. Now that’s a good modern day fairy tale.

Oh boy, c’est la vie…

New design for 2005

I finally got around in finishing the layout, coding it and updating the php code. The main color is/had to be blue but I spend some time deciding on the secondary color with some people. Initially I wanted pink but to much people have blue/pink so orange it became. And yes I went with the worn look, it’s getting outdated but I had a polished design for too much time already.

I dropped a few sections while I added the projects page. Listing the couple of works I have done. I have to start getting more projects to build up a good portfolio. Still to do is rewrite and update my resume in english. Later it will be added to my site.

Bugs:

This new design doesn’t look good at all in Internet Explorer. Bug hunting and applying hacks is not a priority right now(in IE). Normally I make sure a site works in all browsers but being this is my personal site I’ll leave it like this for a while.

In Opera browser there are also a few weird things. I still have to figure them out. Safari works almost good. Only the navigation menu is cut in half. Also trying to figure that one out.

As for validation I used the Transitional doctype. But still have to work out errors showing up here and there.

Conclusion:

Aside from new fresh ‘paint’ the site is pretty much the same old; header, menu, sidebar, footer layout. Simple design, whitespace and bright colors. My new tagline is now: ‘got everything’. A weblog about everything, which is what a weblog is.
