Grey's AnatomyMarch 1st, 2006

I’ve missed Grey’s Anatomy since it premiered last year. It wasn’t till they started season 1 here that I got hooked, it took the pilot episode only to get me. Since then I have watched them all and I can say this is on of the best show I’ve ever seen. It has it all, captivating characters, comedy, drama, romance. And a kick ass music selection that makes you wish they’d release a CD for each episode.

Grey's Anatomy The five interns are so diverse from each other but yet go well together. My favorite ones are George and Izzie, but Dr. Bailey sure is something else. Then for best episode till now, ‘As We Know It’. The code black situation and everything around it had me holding my breath for the full 40 minutes of the episode.

The music is the best, the people that take care of the music per episode really are good. And as one of the few show the Grey’s Anatomy show has a Music Guide detailing all music per episode. Can’t wait to get the soundtrack and DVD of season 1.

Also available, podcasts and weblogs. Three weblogs, the Nurse Blog, Joe the Bartender Blog and the Writer’s Blog. Reading these first two of some characters, after watching an episode to add more to the show as we read stories of what happens ‘off screen’. The writers go into their decision of the story lines, which helps you understand why they made some things happen.

All in all I’m in love with this show, I hope they manage to keep the high level they got now. And best of all the creator Shonda Rhimes is a huge anti-spoiler. So no matter what the tiny spoiler going around says you’ll still be thrown off guard each episode. The staff is instructed to reveal nothing and mislead everyone.

And last I’m sure this show will change the way we speak soon, already heard about the “va-jay-jay”? Seriously.

Juanes TP template

I finished my first Textpattern template yesterday, just in time to submit it for the competition at Textplates. Coding a template to be used by any one in any circumstances proved to be quiet a challenge. But I think for a first try I didn’t do bad. Check out the Juanes live demo.

While the XHTML validates, the CSS doesn’t. I consciously used Mozilla only elements and further the other errors are all about background-color and color. As long as the website works well on the modern browsers I’m not going to lose sleep on those errors. All background is white either way, so I don’t expect that much to go wrong.

As I expected there was a surge of submissions on the last day. There are a couple of very nice templates, very simple done but yet great. Hopefully this will give Textpattern a boost design wise compared to WordPress. I’m looking forward to see if any of these templates will catch on and be used by many Textpattern users.

While working on this template I learned more about Textpattern, while it’s a great system it still has some issues. I had to open the core PHP files several times to understand how a tag worked and how the output was generated. Especially the comment form tags do miss some attributes. But with future releases it can only get better.
