I’m still working freelance, I actually stopped looking for a part time job. I’m having too much stress due to medical issues and looking for a job just adds to it. Working freelance suits me well as I decide when and how long I work. Being your own boss is a bit less stressful. It’s definitely less money but my health is more important.
And I get to learn more this way, working for a boss mostly doesn’t give me time to experiment and learn new things. Last website I did was done with Wordpress and required a bit of coding creativity to make the sidebar dynamical using child pages. I managed to get the whole template 99% dynamic for the client. I learned things I can re use, not something I would have been able to do working for a boss where everything needed to be done yesterday.
I made another website on a very tight budget. Google Apps came in handy here, first time I used it. I set the email server on Google, and use their account for data storage. This way they can have the cheapest hosting package and let Google handle email and storage. I used quite a bit of CSS 3, especially love the gradient selector. I can have Google like buttons using pure CSS, Firefox added support in 3.6 just while I was coding the site. So it has nice buttons in Gecko and Webkit, IE being the odd one out again.
I’m also fully using @font-face now for websites requiring custom font, as long as the license is in order. I actually took my time to convert in all formats needed including .eot for IE. So no flash needed, or other work around. So all in all learned quite a bit these last three months.
Non work related I read a few books, saw countless of movies. Watched Veronica Mars for the first time, so it was a marathon viewing of all three seasons. I was disappointed with the series finale. But then I read more about the show and learned that it was made as a noir piece. In that context the series finale did seem fitting.
Spring is finally overcoming winter so hopefully I will be spending less time inside and more outside enjoying the weather.
