Until a month ago I always used post-it notes to note down grocery list, make some fast budget calculations, etc. while using notebooks for writing ideas, etc. Then I finally realized it made no sense having more then two notebooks and doing my daily writing on a small post it note.

I settled on the Rhodia bloc #13, the paper comes off easily, the paper quality is perfect for fountain ink. My only fountain pen the Parker Latitude with a fine nib doesn’t write smoothly on Rhodia and Moleskine paper. I finally decided to go ahead and purchase a Lamy Safari, I wanted the charcoal one but the store doesn’t have it neither did they hear of it. But they do have a white one which I hadn’t seen on JetPens so I got one with a fine nib.

Since then I have been using the Lamy Safari with Noodler’s ink and the Rhodia everyday for daily notes like grocery, budget, and other mindless information.

As for my Moleskine they are all more then two years old as I don’t use them frequently but the Noodler’s ink bleeds too much through the paper while with Rhodia paper there isn’t almost any bleeding. I hope the new special Moleskines have better paper, I want to get the Recipes Moleskine, but if the bleed is too much I would have to get a pen specially for writing in it. I’m a habit person I like having pens for special purposes.

In any case I’m sold on the Lamy Safari, the price here at the store is the same as JetPens excluding the shipping costs, they have converters and I got a chance to hold the pens and decide on the color. The Pen writes flawlessly, now I only wonder if I can take it with me in my bag or if the risk of ink spill is too great?

This morning I got an idea again for an PHP/mySQL app, nothing new, just a sandwich ordering system. Actually a whole back-end with products management, clients, login, etc. Just the regular PH programming for practice.

I’m tired of just using print paper to draw up the database so I went shopping for a note block.

I ended up with the Rhodia Bloc #18, blank A4 pages. I also needed an orange pen for detailing, the only one they had was a Pentel Slicci 0.7mm. I rather have 0.4mm or less but the shop doesn’t has any and like I mentioned in an other entry I can only get good pens online and not in stores here.

I’m happy with the paper quality, I already filled the first one with SQL tables using a black Sharpie pen and some detailing with the Pentel. I’m not a fan of huge note blocks but this is better then having countless of lose A4 papers scattered all around. I’m still resisting the urge to order again at JetPens, buying pens and paper is addicting.

Two weeks ago I finally made my first purchase on JetPens. After finally giving up that in the Netherlands they just don’t have a variation of pens that leaves online shopping as the only option.

After reading only good thing about the Uni-ball Signo DX 0.38mm I decided on the light blue, two just to be safe. And For my fountain pen I got one bottle of Noodler’s Ink, nightshade. I wanted Navajo Blue but it was out of stock. I filled my only fountain pen, the Parker Latitude with the ink and so far it writes nicely. The ink does have a strong odor, not un nice but my Waterman ink is pretty much odorless. Now I need a second fountain pen, I wanted the Lamy Safari but the store that sells them doesn’t have a refillable adapter. I don’t even know if the Lamy Safari has a refillable adapter or that it only uses it’s own ink capsules.

And I also got a pen case, my pen holder on my desk is fully filled and I will keep buying pens so I needed an extra storage. I really love this case, it feels soft and leathery. If I need to go someplace else I can easily take it along with me. Currently I keep my Sharpie fine point pens in it, the uni-ball signo .38mm and the Muji .5mm.

I’m already planning on placing a second order in the near future. While I love the light blue uni-ball the color doesn’t stand out on the Rhodia graph paper. I will need a darker color to write on Rhodia paper and other very blue lined papers.

As for JetPens service no complains, it took 10 days from ordering to receiving the package. Not bad, the online bookshop in the Netherlands from which I ordered from around the same day took longer to ship.

A side note on the Noodler’s ink, they do fill the bottle too much. I almost spilled ink when opening the bottle for the first time. Next time I refill I’ll need to do it over some newspaper to not get ink on my desk and everything I keep on my desk.
